Introduction to Humming Bird Feeders
If you are reading this, chances are you are setting up a new humming bird feeders. You probably have the perfect location for this particular feeder of yours. But wait, did you know that you can save up more by creating your very own nectar syrup instead of buying it from grocery stores? When it comes to humming bird feeders or oriole bird feeders, you can easily make the nectar from scratch. Making the nectar is easy if you take note of some guidelines. With some practice, you will be able to make your own blend of nectar juice. You will need your humming bird feeder of course, but measuring cups, a wooden spoon, a cooking pot, and a stove are also necessary. Some sugar and distilled water will also be required in this case. Before you begin, you need to learn about these ingredients first. For your humming bird feeders or any oriole bird feeders, you must see to it that the nectar that you create turns out to be quite similar to natural nectars. The nectars that come from flowers are very rich in sucrose or glucose while those that come from juicy fruits are high in fructose content. There is a small amount of nutrition that the humming birds or orioles will get from the homemade nectars that you produce and this is because they remain artificial. For your humming bird feeder, you might like to use refined sugar instead. All you need is about a sugar to water ratio of 1:4. Add one part of sugar to four parts of water. What you want to avoid here is making use of tap water. Try to use distilled water because this will not have any algae and bacteria. It is important for all of these to be ready before you start concocting nectars. You should fill the humming bird feeder up to the brim with the water after it has been cleaned. Then, pour this water on your measuring cup and take note the measurements. By doing this, you will know how much nectar you can put inside the feeder. You will be able to have the measurement for the sugar once you divide this by four. In this case, if the feeder can hold about 200 mL of water, you will need about 50 mL of sugar. A dry measuring cup should be used to measure the sugar. What you need is a cooking pot to mix these two ingredients. Bring it to a slow boil to create an even mixture. You should stir the mixture constantly. It is important that you cool it down before it is placed inside the humming bird feeder. For any excess, it can be placed in a refrigerator where it will hold for two days. What you will have here is a nectar that can be used to feed the humming birds and orioles.
